NRA Basics of Pistol Course

The NRA is recognized nationally as the gold standard for safe firearms training. The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course is intended for new shooters with little to no experience, first time gun owners, or individuals looking to purchase their first firearm. The goal is to teach the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for operating a handgun safely and effectively, while students learn the functionality of their handgun. This course covers how to use both semi-automatic handguns and revolvers. Students will get the opportunity to shoot a single action, double action, and semi-automatic pistol. This course is 8 hours long, giving the student time to learn and become familiar with different aspects of safe gun handling.

  • Gun Safety Rules

  • Proper operations of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols

  • Ammunition knowledge and selection

  • Pistol selection and storage

  • Shooting fundamentals

  • Pistol inspection and maintenance

  • Marksmanship

  • Shooting range safety

Course Topics

  • Level 1-20 shots at 10 feet

  • Level 2-20 shots at 15 feet

  • Level 3-20 shots at 20 feet

  • Level 4-20 shots at 45 feet (Instructor Level)

Proficiency Demonstration

  • Semi-Automatic Pistol or Revolver (Any Caliber), Firearm must be unloaded, in a pistol case.

  • 200 rounds of ammunition

  • Hat

  • Eye Protection

  • Hearing Protection

  • Footwear that covers both feet entirely

  • Shirt that covers up to neck, no V-neck shirts

  • Hand Towel

Handgun rentals are available for $5.

Ammunition available for purchase at current market prices.

Eye and Ear protection available upon request.
